The last time we came here (in August) we bought each of the kids a small stretchy rubber snake. Josh became extremely attached to his and brought "Snakey" everywhere with him. He was very upset when one day, Snakey snapped right in the middle. Mom and Dad were unable to put him back together (satisfactorily). So every time we've gotten in the van recently to go to an activity, Josh asks if we are going back to get another Snakey. So finally we decided to go back there, and told Josh that the day is finally here for you to get a new snake. It occurred to us (Matt in the van, me on the way into the gift shop) that it was in fact possible that the gift shop no longer carried this particular item. And we were right. Josh took it well. He found stretchy red salamander which fulfilled many of his requirements (Amphibian, Red, Squishy) and which he has carried around with him consistently since this day.
