Poison Oak

Poison Oak has stricken two fifths of our family, Matt and Ben. Ben's is all over his face and ears. Poor kid. On the up-side, the treatment for the severe itching is an antihistamine, the main side effect of which is to knock a person out. So we'll have a really sleepy kid on our hands, which is divine. (A tired kid is NOT divine, but a sleepy one is marvelous).

This morning we attended a program sponsored by the library and held in the high school auditorium. Ben played drums, keyboard, and clarinet, but the real highlight was the sliiiiide trombone, which is such a cool instrument. The jr. high-aged kids who were hosting the demonstrations of each instrument were awesome. We were even luckier in that only a couple of families showed up so we had all of the attention to ourselves.

After an hour or so there, we piled back in the car and headed to the Springfield Quadrangle. The kids looked at fish, had lunch, made a friend, ran around, made an art project, and attended a really cool marionette performance of Cinderella. Actually, only Ben and Eli made it through the puppet show. Josh was outside with Matt, running around in the grass in bare feet and having a great time.

I carried Elijah all day in my new baby wrap from Digger and Kristin, my Uncle and Aunt in Colorado. Everywhere I went I got questions and comments, and now I'm thinking about becoming a spokesperson for this brand, SleepyWrap. It's a long stretchy band of fabric, you tie it on in a simple way and ta da! You have this amazing pocket to plunk the baby in totally snugly. Plus, you have a place to tuck your camera, pacifier, and any other crap you pick up along the way like museum propaganda, stickers, dirty kleenex, emergency juicebox... whatever.

Matt is back to work tomorrow for the first day in a long time and we are going to miss him SO MUCH.
