Today was a special day as we remembered how blessed we were four years ago to welcome baby Ben into the world.
In the morning we went to Universal Kids, an indoor playground that we discovered last winter. The kids had a great time there from 9-11. We then went to the Smith College Botanical Gardens for a picnic but due to parking issues only stayed for a snack.
While Josh napped at home, Ben and I had special time together reading books and talking. Daddy came home from work early, which is always a treat.
Ben had a lot of special birthday phone calls from Big Joe, Gene and Kath, Auntie Claire, Uncle Brian, and his Grandma. He is such a big kid now that he can answer the phone all by himself! (I always know it's a telemarketer or computer when Ben starts saying, "You talk funny! Hey mom, this lady is talking funny!"
I took the kids to the playground for a little while before dinner, they played pirates with some boys that we know there. Josh brought me a whole collection of rocks, "Here's some rocks for you, Mommy. This one is a GOLDEN one. It's for you." Then a thunderstorm came upon us and we all ran for the cars, except for Ben who cavorted in the rain a bit. We played more in the rain after we got home. I guess my kids have inherited my love of thunderstorms.
Grandma, Poppi, and Claire came over for dinner, "macaroni" pizza. I let Ben have his first taste of soda, Birch Beer to be specific. He was very pleased and surprised since it is clear and looks like water or seltzer water. He had never had anything remotely like it! We had cookies and ice cream for dessert.
Ben fell asleep in about one minute at bedtime, after hearing the story of Mom and Dad waking up in the night, driving to the hospital under a big, full, yellow moon, driving over the bumpy road construction, and finally meeting Ben for the first time.
On Saturday he will have a birthday party, but this day was a day to remember the joy and luck in our lives to have a child as wonderful as our Ben.
